Hello there! Thank you for joining me today for a serious shop your stash Christmas in July card using only what is in the current Annual Catalog, most of which has been carried over from the 2020 Holiday Catalog.
I used several different bundles with dies and punches + a few stand-alone dies. I did have to wing it here and there, where I wished I had a larger bow to balance out the window greenery more. You make what you have work and use your imagination, i.e., creating your own designer series paper and colors with blending brushes. There is so much to this card and again, it seems like too much and complicated; however, it really is not, and another relaxing project. You just get this vision in your head and improvise from there.
I hope you are all taking advantage of our Designer Series Paper sale through August 2. This year has slipped by so fast, which happens when you are my age.
This will be a wordy post to describe to you how I made this advanced scene card.
As always, your Supplies and Instructions are below.
I’m really enjoying creating cards outside of the usual A2, so I can adhere outside of the margins, which will still fit into the standard A2 envelope. This is another one of those projects with a card base smaller than last week’s Christmas card project for Stampin’ Up! Only Challenges. This card is 3-1/2 x 4-3/4 and corner-rounded at the bottom with the Detailed Trio Punch. I determined the length and width of the card base from the scalloped Contour Dies shape that was die-cut from In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (image panel) that I used a Blending Brush with Smoky Slate ink to accent the edges of the panel.
I stamped the multi-snowflake image from Snowflake Wishes with white craft ink around the edges of the image panel. Remember, I always line up my die-cut images, etc., on the image panel BEFORE I adhere anything to size up for placement, customizing my stamped and cut dies so it all works out. I know that’s a very simplistic term about everything working out; however, you really do wing it along the way so that everything does size up. If you’ve watched my videos, you’ve seen how I work with what I’ve die-cut + fussy cutting, and how everything always works itself out.
For instance, the greenery you see below the window frame, was fussy cut about 1/3 of the way up after being die-cut to add the Real Red bow from Warmest Wishes; as was the Evening Evergreen Christmas tree from Perfectly Plaid that was punched out.
I will share with you an extremely beneficial purchasing tip … in our seasonal catalogs, the glimmer and foil specialty designer series paper is usually brought back or enhanced by adding various hues. For example, with the upcoming Holiday Catalog, Silver Foil was brought back, but with 2 additional hues.
I consider the above staples and always keep this on board, even when it retires, because it will come back around, one way or the other.
AFTER I stamped the white Craft ink around the edges, I figured out where to tie the Pool Party Sheer Ribbon around the DSP that was bowed at the right. This panel was adhered to the Basic White Thick card base with Tear & Tape. Most of the time, when I have to tie a ribbon around any kind of CS of DSP, I use basic office tape on the backside to adhere the ribbon down, which is very adhesive-friendly.
I always build my card up from the base. After I adhered the scalloped image panel, I laid out how I wanted to arrange the other stamped and die-cut images, which will be described below.
The Christmas tree from Perfectly Plaid was stamped with Evening Evergreen onto Basic White Regular and punched out. I adhered half of the tree to the back of the window panel that was cut from Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper from a stand-alone die in Window Flower Box with the left side of the pane inked up with Pool Party and a Blending Brush and the right side with Soft Sea Foam and a Blending Brush, with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive. I have 1 brush for each color family and rub/rinse the color out when I’m finished. The window frame is adhered with Foam Adhesive Strips; however, I added the glitter snowflakes that were directly adhered under the frame with liquid adhesive. The left center and lower right snowflakes were adhered under the frame with the large top right snowflake adhered with liquid adhesive and Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Back to the glitter snowflakes, this specialty DSP is another one of my retired staples that I keep on board. Since I am purist, our Snowy White Velvet Paper, which is new in the upcoming Holiday Catalog, or using the Wink of Stella on our Shimmery CS, are the perfect alternatives.
The greenery and pinecone image from Poinsettia Petals was stamped x2 with Soft Succulent ink. I used a Blender Pen to pull off the ink from the pinecone so that I could color it in with a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker. Both of the images were cut from their coordinating die from Poinsettia Dies. The Real Read CS bow was cut from Warm Wraps Dies. I had to fussy cut down the greenery so that it would adhere aesthetically under the bow. The greenery and bow were adhered with liquid adhesive and Stampin’ Dimensionals, as shown below.
I stamped the Merry sentiment from Banner Year onto a piece of Regular Basic White CS with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and die-cut this from the smallest top-rounded Tailor Made Tags Die. I tied a length of Linen Thread through the top and adhered this with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals right under the Pool Party ribbon bow.
Five Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials in silver were scattered about the card front for embellishing.
I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Thank you for stopping by for a visit and have a great day!
I do have some of upcoming new Holiday Catalog + Sale-A-Bration products on board and will be sharing you on Thursday a project from this, and hope to see you back.
