Global Design Project #404 Case the Designer | Floating Frame Technique

Hello there! Thank you for joining me today for Global Design Project #404, where the theme is to CASE the Designer. CASE = Copy and Selectively Edit to make a project your own off another’s inspiration.

I would also like to thank the GDP DT for selecting my card as the GDP #403 Winner.

For today’s card, I’m featuring the floating frame technique created from Small Blending Brushes using Bubble Bath, Petal Pink, Lemon Lolly, Soft Sea Foam, Pool Party, and Fresh Freesia. I wanted to keep my colors on the subtle side.

From Susan’s card, I kept with her circle focal point and twine.

There’s also a coloring block technique that I used, as well, which I will share with you tomorrow but, the concept is the same between the cards.

As always, your shopping Supplies and Instructions, including measurements, are below.

I cut my Basic Black CS base to 4 x 8 and scored this in the center at 4″ for a top-folding card. I cut a piece of Balmy Blue CS to 3-7/8 x 3-7/8 and ran it through our retired Crimper.

I’ve said many times over that I keep these basic tools on board, retired or not, as I always end up using them.

I added some Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker ink splatter to the Balmy Blue panel and then secured this to the card base with liquid adhesive.

I then cut a piece of Basic White CS to 4 x 4 and inked my way up from bottom to top with a Small Blending Brush in Fresh Freesia, Pool Party, Soft Sea Foam, Lemon Lolly, Petal Pink, and Bubble Bath. I ran my fingers under the kitchen faucet and shook them off over the inked panel and used a paper towel to remove the excess, which lifts the color off that leaves you with a cool mottled effect.

I cut the ink blended CS out using the largest Layering Circle Die-Cut. I took the die-cut to the Paper Trimmer and cut at every 1/2″, which worked out perfectly. I added Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the now 6 mini panels.

How I adhered the panels was to center the Layering Circle Die-Cut atop the Balmy Blue CS, marked it lightly with a pencil at the bottom, and adhered the bottom panel first slightly below the mark … because I knew that I would be leaving 1/8″ or so between the panels for the floating panel technique.

I cut my butterfly from Brilliant Wings Dies out of Real Red & White Glimmer Paper. I tied a piece of Basic Black Baker’s Twine around the center of the butterfly and tied it into a knot at the top.

My sentiment was stamped onto Basic Black CS with Versamark then heat embossed with White Powder that was cut to size.

For final assembly, I adhered the sentiment panel to the bottom floating panel with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The butterfly was adhered with a piece of Tear & Tape down the center to the center of the floating panels.

Three Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels were adhered to the card to embellish.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project and please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and have a great day!
