Masking + Ink Blending

Hello there! Today’s Butterfly Gala project features masking and ink blending.

Butterfly Gala is a fantastic bundle that is carrying over to the new catalog starting on June 4, 2019. Currently, this bundle in the Spring Occasions Catalog that you can order for 10% off until the above date. I combined a baby-themed designer series paper (DSP) of Twinkle Twinkle for more of an adult card with soft colors with masking and ink blending on top of a heat embossed background using Handwritten and silver embossing powder.

We have a standard A2 top-folding Gray Granite card base with a piece of Twinkle Twinkle DSP layered on a scrap of Petal Pink cardstock (CS) where I stamped the sentiment from Butterfly Gala in Gray Granite and scalloped edged the bottom with the scallop die-cut from Stitched Be Mine, which is also carrying over, but not in the bundle, and is also 10% off in the Spring Occasions Catalog. Gray Granite Textured Weave Ribbon was tied in a knot around.

For the heat embossed image panel, I used Layering Squares to die-cut a 2-1/4 Petal Pink mat. I took a piece of 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 Whisper White CS, applied the Embossy Buddy to it, stamped Handwritten in Versamark, and took the heat tool to set. I used masking paper purchased at a craft store to punch out the large butterfly from the Butterfly Duet Punch. I removed the backing and firmly rubbed down the removable adhesive with a bone folder onto the embossed CS. On the diagonal, I used Sponge Daubers from bottom right corner to top in Gray Granite, Pool Party, Soft Sea Foam, and Petal Pink, and blended my way up, taking great care to keep the mask down. I used a Swiffer cloth to rub off the excess ink from the embossed panel THEN I removed the mask. You do not want to accidentally rub ink over the white space of the butterfly. I die-cut a straight 2-1/8″ square. You get the angle by angling the image square when you adhere.

I then followed the same heat embossing technique with silver powder to vellum CS and punched it out. I used Glue Dots on the back of the butterfly to adhere to the ink blended panel with more Glue Dots on top to adhere the pearls. Even though there is adhesive on the back of the pearls, you want the extra adhesion when working with heat embossed images as only certain adhesives will hold with this technique.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card. Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me today. Have a great day and God bless.
