Make the Cards Challenge #58: Fancy Fold aka Fun Fold Cards

Hello there! Thank you for joining me today for Make the Cards Challenge #58 to create a fancy fold aka fun fold and hope that you join us.

This is going to be a more lengthy narrative, as there are several steps to this fancy fold.

What makes this work is that I have a strong color card base, light DSP, dark CS mats with light images. This keeps your eye moving without too much overdrive, yet distinctively defining every panel of the card.

I created this card with the new and upcoming Sale-A-Bration FREE products on July 1, 2022, of the Wonderful World stamp set and Wonderful World Designer Series Paper, that is absolutely gorgeous. I love the watercolor-y designer series paper with our Distinktive images that are designed to give you the look of watercolored images that we all love.

I incorporated several techniques with Nature’s Prints and Pansy Patch stamp sets/dies for the sentiments.

This is what I would call a S-fold pocket card that is so simple to make that also folds to fit in our Medium Envelopes.

You can use this as a Gift Card Holder to include a note or just a note.

To start, I had the challenge theme, figured out the products I wanted to use, and winged the rest.

A DSP loose wrap was made to easily slip off the card from Wonderful World DSP with a secondary Fresh Freesia Open Weave Ribbon wrap. These are the measurements that you have to wing based off of your personal margins and design.

The card base must be cut from 12 x 12 CS for this design. You can use 8-1/2 x 11 and tweak the measurements to compensate for the 1″ you’re going to lose if you do not have 12 x 12 CS. Since there’s 4 panels in this fold, I would score down 1/4″ for each panel.

The colors in the Wonderful World stamp set and Designer Series Paper are:

As always, your shopping Supplies and Instructions, including measurements, are below.

My card base was cut and scored from 12 x 12 Rich Razzleberry CS using the measurements listed below. For my DSP panels, I cut them 1/8″ less than the card base panels and used liquid adhesive to secure the DSP on the first 3 panels ONLY from the left. The card pocket panel was adhered with Tear & Tape on the left, bottom center, and right.

It’s imperative that you watch how to cut your designer series paper for orientation, i.e., the far right panel of the card.

For the far left panel sentiment, I cut the mat from the largest banner die in Stylish Shapes from Rich Razzleberry CS. The sentiment was stamped onto Basic White CS with Memento Tuxedo Black from the Pansy Petals stamp set. I cut this from the nesting large banner die in Stylish Shapes with the end right of the sentiment more so towards the banner to accent the panel with a leaf image stamped in Pear Pizzazz at the far left. The sentiment was adhered to the large banner with liquid adhesive.

For the far right pocket sentiment, this was stamped from Nature’s Prints with Versamark ink onto Rich Razzleberry CS, heat embossed with white powder, and cut from its coordinating Natural Prints die.

The floral image in the center is from Wonderful World that is a Cling Mount stamp set. I colored in this image with our Stampin’ Write Markers in phases onto Basic White CS. I started with the Daffodil Delight stamen. The rest of the flowers were colored with Starry Sky at the base and blended out with Oasis Orchid. The stems were colored in with Mossy Meadow.

The floral image was cut from the 5th largest die in Deckled Rectangles. The image mat was cut from the 4th largest Deckled Rectangle Die from Rich Razzleberry CS.The image panel was adhered to the mat with liquid adhesive.

I colored in a length of my favorite Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon with a Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend Marker that I tied into a bow to place on the floral design as shown below with a Mini Glue Dot.

For the pocket panel on the far right, I cut it to 5-3/8 x 3-1/8 and cut the largest circle Stitched Shapes Dies, then adhered with Tear & Tape on the far left and right side and at the bottom. There’s a lot of great texture, dimension, curves, stitched lines, etc., that makes this project a very attractive presentation for whatever you design it for.

This took a few days to write up and apologies if I repeat myself. It’s been a long week.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project and please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit and have a great day!

  1. Card base: 12 x 5-1/2, Rich Razzleberry CS. Score at 1-7/8, 3-3/4, and 8. The 1-7/8 score is a mountain fold as shown above. The other 2 score lines are valley folds.
  2. Once you do your fold, you are going to have to determine what the margins are where the DSP is adhered. I gave myself a 1/8″ margin for the DSP on the card base.
  3. Pocket panel DSP: 5-3/8 x 3-1/8, Wonderful World DSP.
  4. Scalloped sentiment pocket panel: 4-1/2 x 2-3/4, Petal Pink CS cut with the scallop die from Penned Flowers at the top.
  5. Enclosure band: 1-1/2 x 12, cut to size to wrap, Wonderful World DSP.
