Hello there y’all! I have been experimenting with out of the box methods discovering ways of achieving clean and simple cards, with a serious punch, by creating my own background elements with virtually no accessories on a canvas. There is a difference, and I will do my best to articulate in a blog post.
An ACCESSORY is something that is manufactured for you to use in your projects. An ELEMENT is an accessory that you create. This is where you really get your creativity on and shop your stash. Don’t forget the generic home items that you have too, such as an old book lying around, parchment paper, coffee filters, etc.
If you look at the last few weeks of blog posts, you can clearly see what I’m talking about in that I’m not using the usual manufactured accessories or my go-to’s. I’m creating my own now.
Today’s card is another example of creating what I wanted to be a piece of notebook paper by using the Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set and coordinating Pocket Framelits Dies, hence my ELEMENT. The main images are from the DisTINKtive Healing Hugs. This layered stamp is fabulous and allows you depth and dimension with one ink application. There are no Framelits with this set, but it’s very easy and therapeutic to fussy cut. The ACCESSORY on this card is the Tinted Faceted Buttons and Linen Thread. I’ve been going REAL OLD SCHOOL lately, especially with the thread and button, not to mention distress inking.
I love the color scheme that I used of Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, and Pool Party. I did not tie in the Pool Party anywhere else on the card, as it is an ELEMENT, but it was awfully tempting to clutter up with a trio of Pool Party sequins. Sometimes you have to wing it and make it work; and in this case, it did.
I hope that you enjoyed this brief explanation of ELEMENT and ACCESSORY. I really need to get back into videos again. I know it’s been a long time, but I’ve been busy and have newborn twins in the house. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you so much for stopping by to visit me today. Have a great day and God bless.
